7.12.2006 - The 3 sides of a coin
The Good- Well, I have a nice shiney computer, it's a Intel Core Duo E6600 with a Geforce 8800 graphics card and is generally wonderful in every meaningful way :)
The Bad - The reason I have a nice shiney computer is that my old pc exploded. I'm not talking "10 year old boy exaggerating something to make it sound cool", I'm talking pillar of black smoke out the back of PC with a horrible burning smell and managed to cook the CPU, Motherboard, memory and graphics card (and obviously the PSU which is where the whole problem stemmed from)
The Ugly - Due to my own stupidity when I reinstalled everything after I managed to salvage the hard drive I forgot to back up my email. This means I lost *everything* I had queued up in my mail for any updates. Yes I cried, yes I stomped my feet, threw my toys out the pram and had a hissy fit but that's by the by now.
- What this all means is that if you sent me anything that isn't currently on the site I'd love it if you could send it to me again. Yes, I know it's a pain in the arse but I'd really appreciate it,
Cheers,
Toby...(*KABOOOM*)
10.11.2006 - Hmmmm... (Part 2)
- Seems like someone on the server admin side forgot to renew the domain...
We're back now anyway,
Toby...
9.10.2006 - Hmmmm...
- OK, none of the hardware pages work, I've emailed the admins but received no reply as of yet. It says "We are performing maintenance so this part of the site is down for a moment, please come back a bit later.." but I'm not, so, erm, I have no idea.
It's not my fault.
Toby...
Update: Now it works again!
19.5.2006 - SNK
- Seeing as I already have Neogeo and Hyper Neogeo 64 I thought, hell, why not.
- Some of you may have noticed a few minor layout changes to the site. In an effort to control the rampantly out of control and incredibly aggressive popup/under/over adverts on the site I have decided to finance the site myself. System 16 is still a non-profit organisation but due to having real life commitments (kids etc..) I do need to at least suppliment the payments I will be making with normal banner adverts (as observed above). I hope they're not too obtrusive and that you may occasionally find something clickworthy. As for the paypal donate button, it's just for the site. Anything donated will be used to keep the site running (not to finance a new ferrari or anything)
- The plus side for you, the viewer, is that there are no more horrible popups. It was driving me nuts so goodness knows what you all thought. Anyway, it's gone now and good riddance,
Cheers,
Toby...
18.5.2006 - Spring has Sprung!
- I decided to combine the last 2 news posts, just for neatness sake as they were a bit all over the place, and I woke up in a slightly less grumpy mood than when I wrote it the previous night ;)
- Going through some old emails here and putting some stuff up that I needed to get through from my to do directory, I still have a bit sitting there but for now I've run out of time and interest has waned...

Other Bits - Well, spring has sprung, I know this as I was driving through the countryside and had to pull over through sneezing so much that I got dizzy and my steering wheel a nice new sheen. Something I feel you all wanted to know...
- I've run out of games to play at home and am becoming bored, it's hard to choose the games to play as I have to be able to play it in front of my boys (1 and 3), so no decapitation or naughtyness is allowed. It's shocking how depraved my tastes must have been before the kids were about as I can't play anything that I used to :)
Cheers,
Toby...
1.3.2006 - Tip Top-Up

- I went to a golf driving range today, the first time I've ever picked up a club. The reason for this is it's my mates bright idea that for his stag day on friday we'd start by playing a full round of golf...
Having never picked up a club before I thought it may be prudent if I could at least hit the damn ball, so I trundled along to the local driving range. All I can say is that friday is going to be, if not a total disaster, a pretty long and painful experience, especially for those behind me...
Cheers,
Toby...
28.2.2006 - Kind of an end of winter/spring-ish cleaning 2006 stylee thing
- OK, so we had ATEI in the UK then AOU in Japan so I've had a little to do figuring stuff out with the updates, I think I should have caught most things now that have been released/announced, but you never know, if you notice anything I've forgotten, as usual let me know.
- I've managed to work my way through most of my /system16_todo directory. In case you've sent something in by email and are wondering where it is, I've not even looked at my /system16 email folder this time round, that's probably for the next update :). I had a shedload of stuff backed up in my to do and it's been a real slog getting through it all this time around, I don't know who sent in some stuff, so if I haven?t given you credit let me know and I'll add it where appropriate.
- You'll notice in this update that I've added Chase HQ 2 by Taito, there was a sneak peak of it at the AOU and I have to say you can colour me pretty unimpressed so far. You drive a police car! I mean, what's that about? Where's the undercover supercar with the light slapped on the top? And what's all this cell shaded Nancy all about? O well, we'll have to see, hasn't been a good Chase HQ style game since the criminally underrated Tokyo Cop by Galeco.
- Afterburner Climax is sounding more and more interesting, sounds like the cabinet is going to be along the lines of the Cycraft simulator, which would make sense as Sega bought Simuline, the company that made that cabinet :) I can't wait for it; the videos of it in motion are just amazing...
- So, with that little quiver of excitement out of the way I better get on with the update...

Other Bits - This update was seriously hindered by the new version of Battlestar Galactica, I'd been put off watching by the fact that I had such fond memorys of the original series and didn?t want these diminished. I did exactly the same thing when Star Trek Next Generation came out as well, and I was just as wrong about that. The new version is, like STNG was as well (ooo, controversy!), a vastly superior vision than the original, it's managed to keep me riveted from the pilot until I am currently up to date near the end of the 2nd season, gripping stuff :)
- I've also been having quite a lot of fun playing some of the TOCA Touring Car 3 online demo recently, I go under the name Bandageman, racing's only superhero.
Cheers,
Toby...
11.2.2006 - Annoying site bug fixed
Since changing the site over to PHP there's been some weirdness when you selected a game or whatever there was a link to on the site. As it loaded the images on the page it'd scroll what you'd selected off of the screen. this was REALLY annoying. Luckily enough it's been fixed now thanks to my PHP guru, Arttu Ylarakkola from www.solvalou.com. :)
Cheers,
Toby...
27.1.2006 - ATEI 2006
- I went to the ATEI the other day, it wasn't bad.
Time Crisis 4 rocked in many many ways, House of the Dead 4 was a great braindead shooter (even tho' the hand motions to unjam your gun were...erm...suspect...) DDR Supernova took ages to load and made my legs hurt and my pits sweaty, Power Smash 3 looked loverly, Metal Slug 6 looked arse, Battle Gear 4 had the best cabinet and Fist of the Northstar was as confusing as the cartoon (and I pulled the knob off, fnaaarrrrrrrr). Gashaaaan was just mad, think 4 player point blank with plastic balls you throw at the screen instead of using guns, huge multiplayer fun and crashingly depressing as the chances of it making it over here are distressingly slim... Love and Berry was one of the games of the show, and yes, I'm scooping my masculanity out the window with a large shovel.
Konami - Added Cooper's9 to PC Based Hardware - [Link]

- Moved Half Life Survivor from Type X to Type X+ Hardware - [Link]
- Addded King of Jurrasic to Unknown Post 1990 Hardware - [Link]
That's about it, time to go and watch some more of the new Battlestar Galactica methinks, the mere thought of it makes me moist...
Cheers,
Toby...
7.1.2006 - And on the 7th day...
- More PCB picture madness. Guru chucked a load of new stuff my way and I cleaned up some old pictures and did them again. It's slowly getting there, which is nice :)
I have a load more kicking around on my hard-drive, but I've lost the will to update now, I need to play something where I can blow stuff up before I go insane.
- A huge thanks to cutebutwrong for adding a System 16 game and hardware search for firefox (the browser of choice) over here, it's great and seems to work perfectly :)
- What do you think about these slightly smaller but more regular updates? It's easier for me as I can do stuff as and when I have the time now the site's easier to update. If you have an opinion let me know on the messageboard, it may not make any difference but it'd be nice to know what you think :)
- Also, since I lost my stats tracking, I don't know who's linking to me, it'd be nice to know where people are coming from!
- With that said, on with the update...

Cheers,
Toby...
